GROM SWAP

CHIBA'S SURF
Chiba offers the widest variety of surf. Although mainly beach breaks, there are a handful of world class reef points as well. Chiba is considered to have consistent surf year round and gets large typhoon surf in late summer, August to November. Surf can be crowded during the high season of summer, but only at the "main" spots. 4/3mm wetsuits are normally worn during the winters, December-March, 3/2mm from March-late May, and boardshorts the rest of the year in southern Chiba. Kamogawa is known for it's powerful breaks and consistency. It's a long beach that bends inward and breaks on every swell direction except for NW-W. There is a bike path that runs the entire length of the beach, and often easy to find a peak to yourself. Because of the shape of the small bay, any wind direction is good.
  ACCOMMODATION
Now available in Kamogawa is the home of Dave Yamaya, professional surfer and founder of GROM SWAP INTERNATIONAL. The house was built in the summer of 2008, is owned by Dave, and is a short 10 minute bicycle ride to the main breaks of Kamogawa. It's a 2 bedroom, with an over sized loft, large deck and garden, for those fresh veggies. One of the bedrooms will be given to the surfer(s) coming to stay. The bedroom is equipped with TV, high speed internet, and telephone, to make that call home to mom easy. There are 3 supermarkets, post office, surf shops, 2 hospitals, restaurants, several banks and more, all within a 5 minute bike ride of the home. There are only 7 houses built in this new neighborhood, and it is grom friendly.

SUNRISE KAMOGAWA
Japan's nickname is The Land of the Rising Sun, and it lives up to that name. Kamogawa sits on the eastern coastline and is greeted with spectacular sunrises year round. There is no daylight savings time here, so from MAY-AUGUST prepare to have a dawn patrol at 4am.
